After performing due diligence by sourcing, selecting, and interviewing a candidate, most external recruiting companies write an email presentation of the candidate in text form to the company they are working with, attaching the candidate’s CV.
We also used to do the same. However, we found this presentation to be a time-consuming process and one that is difficult to do objectively. To you as a recruiter, every candidate you are presenting is the best fit for the position.
The Switch
To speed this process up and make it more objective, we require candidates that pass our interview to present themselves in a 1-minute video to the company they will be working for. In that video they just observe the following three points, but are else free to be creative:
Self-presentation
Previous professional experience.
Motivation to work for the new company and team.
Candidate Video
Such a video gives the company a more vivid and lively image of the potential employee and is richer in representation compared with an intro written by a recruiter because it is personal, authentic, and more imaginative.
Another important factor that we test with letting candidates produce such short videos is commitment. A candidate who goes to such lengths is less likely to fall off or terminate their contract shortly after starting the new job. The candidate video presentation has become a welcome fall-off prevention measure for us.
